Drillers Win Squeaker, 4-3, Over Pobladores
|
The Houston Drillers picked up a win at Sam Houston Field, dropping the Los Angeles Pobladores, 4-3. Francisco Castro, who led the NBL in wins with 20 in 1971, was the difference-maker. Larry Clarke, credited with the win in relief, is now 3-2. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1 innings. With the victory, the Drillers record stands at 38-53.
Randy Barnes, who finished 5th in the NBL in hits with 164 in 1967, helped out the Houston cause in the bottom of the eighth inning with a run-scoring double. For the game, the left fielder was 2-3 with a double and a walk.
"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Castro told the Houston Observer.
