Quakers Held in Check by Eagles, Lose, 3-1
|
The Washington Eagles overcame a pretty good performance by Philadelphia shortstop Gary Neyland, beating the Quakers, 3-1, at Monument Field. Neyland was 3-4 with a home run and a double. Washington is 39-54 and Philadelphia, with the loss, 42-51.
Washington first baseman Dustin Guest contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 84th hit of the season and put the Eagles ahead, 2-1.
"I really like what we did out there today," Guest said after the game.
