Walk-Off Win Makes Atlanta 44-46
|
The Atlanta Generals beat the New York Empires, 3-2. Atlanta pitcher and New Haven, Connecticut, native Frank Combs led the way. The win went to Bill Wilson in relief, making him now 3-0. Bruce Shone took the loss for New York. Atlanta is now 44-46, New York 54-39.
Batting in the bottom of the 11th, 28-year old catcher Armando Lima had a real shot to win the game. New York pitcher Bruce Shone was determined not to let it happen. But with one out, Lima hit a run-scoring single. The Generals had a walk-off triumph.
"This place was rocking at the end," Lima said.
