Empires Score Late, Clip Generals, 2-1
|
The New York Empires racked up a win at Atlantic Station Field, bumping off the Atlanta Generals, 2-1. Jack Neenan, who started for New York, pitched effectively for his team. Jack Pratt came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. The victory makes New York 6-4, as the team seeks a return to the playoffs in 1974.
New York used the timely hitting of Al Castro to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Empires on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said New York manager Dan Whiting.
