The Boston Terriers opened their 1968 season with a triumph over the Toronto Hurons at Atlantic Avenue Grounds. The final score was 8-5. Boston second baseman Harold Batkin had a big game. He hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 4. Boston reliever Brian Long picked up the win to move to 1-0. Don LeoGrande suffered the loss.

Boston won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning. With one out and Steve Reichert on the mound for Toronto, first baseman Armando Carrillo hit a dramatic 3-run home run, bringing Terriers fans to their feet.

"It's great when the crowd is energized," Carrillo said.
