The bad news for the Boston Terriers: an opening day loss, 13-4, to the New York Empires at Atlantic Avenue Grounds. The good news: it was just game one in a long season. No one played better than Dave Matuzak. He was 2 for 5 with 2 doubles, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. Nate Frampton got the win, improving to 1-0. He worked 7.2 innings, giving up 4 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 4.

Early in the game, Matuzak had a bases-clearing double for New York. It was his 2nd double of the season and put the Empires on top, 3-0.
