Detroit beat Atlanta in a rain-soaked ballgame.
Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Detroit Wolverines and the Atlanta Generals. Detroit won it, 2-1. Detroit starter Basil Anderson was in command. Darrell Klug collected save number 1.
Gasper Copeland had a big run-scoring double for the Wolverines in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Detroit leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from 25-year old left-handed pitcher Paul Hodges and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Wolverines ahead, 2-0.
"Clutch hitting plus clutch pitching usually equals a win," said Copeland.
With the loss, Atlanta drops to 4-5.
