Knickerbockers Defeat Blockbusters, 7-5
|
Los Angeles wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Dario Fontanez, falling to the New York Knickerbockers, 7-5. Fontanez threw 7.1 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. The winner was New York reliever Ray Schifsky, now 1-0. The loser was Dooley Brewer. The 5th-place Blockbusters have lost 4 consecutive games.
New York used the timely hitting of Wayne Baker to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 17th inning to put the Knickerbockers on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"Our team showed some resilience," said Baker.
