Bluebirds Best Burros in Pitching Duel
|
Jorge Sandoval was on the winning side of a pitcher's duel at Flatbush Park. In fact, the Brooklyn Bluebirds right-hander was instrumental in his team's 2-1 victory over the Denver Burros. Sandoval picked up the win for Brooklyn, going 7.2 innings. He gave up 1 run on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 8-7. Brooklyn is now 46-49, while Denver is 61-34.
Tom Pena had a big solo home run for the Bluebirds in the bottom of the third inning. With Brooklyn leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a cutter from Bob Langham, who finished 3rd in the NBL in saves with 26 in 1972, and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Bluebirds on top, 2-0.
"We busted our tails," said Denver manager Clark Anderson. "But we came up short."
