Bluebirds Suffer 6-2 Home Defeat
|
The San Diego Captains trumped the Brooklyn Bluebirds, 6-2, at Flatbush Park. San Diego left fielder Randy Barnes was terrific. He was 3 for 4 with 3 singles. He scored 2 runs. Dave Fields, who is tied for 6th in the NBL with a 6.3 K/9 rate, was the winner. He's now 7-7. The loser was Dick Conway. Jack DeWitt finished to wrap up his 11th save.
Bob Anderson came through with a big-time hit for San Diego. The pinch hitter smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 3-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Anderson said.
San Diego is now 55-38, 3½ games up in the National Baseball League Western Division.
