Packers Score Late, Top Industrials, 5-2
|
The Cincinnati Packers knocked off the Pittsburgh Industrials, 5-2, at Roman Arena. Stan Timmons was a big reason Cincinnati won. The left fielder was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Reliever Brian Williams picked up the win. His record improves to 9-5. Bob Cole, who finished 2nd in the NBL in saves with 25 in 1964, took the loss. Cincinnati, at 46-50, holds down 6th place in the National Baseball League Eastern Division.
Timmons had an important at-bat with runners on 1st and 2nd in the bottom of the eighth, when he hit a run-scoring single. The Packers went on to win.
Cincinnati manager Martin Abresch called it "a pretty good win."
