Win Streak Now at 6 for Knickerbockers
|
The New York Knickerbockers extended their winning streak.
Sid Shafer brought his A-game to help New York defeat the Los Angeles Blockbusters, 5-1. Shafer, now 8-6, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 1 hit, while striking out 4, walking 4, and allowing 1 run.
The Knickerbockers got a big hit from third baseman Steve Wells. Facing Los Angeles pitcher Billy Duprey in the bottom of the fifth, Wells pounded a 2-run double to right-center. His 19th double of the season put the Knickerbockers ahead, 4-1.
"We're obviously playing with a lot of confidence," said New York manager Timothy Widholm.
New York has run its win streak to 6 straight.
