Rain could not dampen the pregame excitement of Houston fans. But the subsequent loss, and a disappointing one at that, to the Northmen had to.
The Northmen grabbed a win, 11-3, at Sam Houston Field, overcoming a fine effort from Houston pitcher Francisco Castro. Castro went 7.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. Roger Long, the winner, goes to 5-12. He allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with 1 walk and 1 strikeout over 7 innings.
Steve Pavey came through with a big-time hit for Twin Cities. The second baseman smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 4-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"This game is going to humble you at times and you've got to man up and deal with it," said Houston manager Nate Nilsson.
This loss makes it 7 in a row for Houston.
