Terriers Suffer 5-2 Road Loss
|
The home team gave the crowd at Puget Field something to cheer about.
The Seattle Emeralds got a marvelous performance from pitcher Bernie Underwood. The right-hander kept the Boston offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 5-2 Seattle victory at Puget Field. Underwood, now 2-3, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs.
Dustin Guest had a big 2-run home run for the Emeralds in the bottom of the first inning. With Seattle leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a sinker from Vern Gould, who finished 2nd in the NBL in innings pitched with 257.1 in 1962, and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Emeralds on top, 3-0.
Seattle manager Mark Velez was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard," he said.
With the win, Seattle upped its record to 48-46.
