The New York Empires besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Seattle first baseman Ramon Montoya by beating the Emeralds, 6-4, at Puget Field. Montoya was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. New York leads the American Baseball League Eastern Division by 3 games.

New York took advantage of an error in the top of the 15th inning. The game was tied, 4-4, when Len Finnegan hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put the Empires in front, 5-4.

"There's no quit in this team," said Empires manager Dan Whiting.
