Captains Handle Washington, Snag 7-4 Win
|
The San Diego Captains defeated the Washington Eagles, 7-4, at San Diego Sporting Complex. Leading the charge for San Diego was center fielder Ron Roe. He went 4-5 with a triple and 3 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Jack DeWitt, the winner, goes to 13-6. He allowed 4 runs on 9 hits, with no walks and 6 strikeouts over 8.2 innings. San Diego is now 60-38, 6 games up in the National Baseball League Western Division.
Roe had a game-changing triple in the bottom of the sixth. On a 1-0 fastball from Dave Alexander, he banged a 2-run triple to left-center, giving the Captains a 4-2 lead. It was the 6th triple of the year for Roe.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said San Diego manager Joe Mack.
