Seagulls Rally Late to Nip Terriers
|
In a low-scoring contest between the San Francisco Seagulls and the Boston Terriers, Dennis Fulton, who finished 5th in the NBL in innings pitched with 283.1 in 1961, proved to be the difference. The San Francisco right-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-2 Seagulls win. San Francisco reliever Paul Wiley picked up the win to move to 9-2. Tim Jepperson suffered the loss. San Francisco, at 60-38, is 7 games up in the American Baseball League Western Division.
Had Bobby Tapia not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Tapia hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Seagulls.
"Dennis was hitting his spots and everything had life," said San Francisco manager Al Borie.
