|
Detroit had no answer for 26-year old right-handed pitcher Ron Cwiklinski. The Atlanta Generals starter stymied Wolverines hitters, helping the Generals cruise to victory, 6-1. Cwiklinski, the winner, moves to 7-5. He threw 5 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 3 walks. The defeat makes Detroit 50-44.
Roberto Palacios, who finished 4th in the ABL in wins above replacement with 8.1 in 1971, took Detroit hurler William Matz deep in the top of the fourth. His 2-run home run put the Generals on top, 2-1. In all, Palacios had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
Said losing manager Alex Wobbema: "The list goes on and on of things we just flat out didn't do."
