Baltimore got an elite performance from starting pitcher John Pardoe in securing a 2-1 decision over the New York Empires. Baltimore is now 44-52, while New York is 55-44.

The decisive blow was delivered by Mike Sheffield in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off 28-year old right-handed pitcher Andy Humphrey to win the game for Baltimore. The home crowd went nuts.

"John had it going," said Baltimore manager Steve Read.
