Eagles Pull Out Late-Game Win, 5-4
Thanks in large part to center fielder Jeff Lawler, the Washington Eagles beat the Los Angeles Blockbusters, 5-4. Lawler was 3-3 with a double and 2 singles. Washington reliever Mark Sanders picked up the win, upping his record to 1-4. George Jakubowski absorbed the loss. Brian Alfieri earned the save, his 9th in 15 tries.

Washington used the timely hitting of George Kill to seize the win. The catcher stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Eagles on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Lawler. "You've got to get results."

The victory puts Washington at 41-59.
