The Chicago Hawks earned a win at Hyde Park Stadium, knocking off the Houston Drillers, 5-2. On the bump for Chicago was left-hander Kevin Edwards. He had a starring role in the triumph. Ron Woods earned his 7th save, after closing out the game. With the win, the Hawks improved to 36-65.
Lute Eccles was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2 for Chicago. The three-time All-Star had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With one out and runners on 1st and 2nd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring single off Mike Brown. It was his 91st hit of the season.
"I was just taking it batter by batter, just enjoying the moment," said Edwards.
