Atlanta got a terrific game from right fielder Richie Lord. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Detroit, 6-4. Lord went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Jim Bryant earned the win to go to 8-10. He allowed 4 runs on 10 hits, with 1 walk and 1 strikeout in 8 innings of work. The first-place Wolverines improved to 51-44.

Detroit took a 6-3 lead on Steve Hudson's 5th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Hudson hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Atlanta pitcher Bill Davis visibly frustrated.

"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Hudson.
