Lou Ward made an impact in the 9-5 Houston win over Chicago. Ward, the 20th overall pick in the 1968 draft, went 3-5 with 2 doubles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The Hawks, now 39-60, have lost 4 straight.

Jim Medrano had a big 2-run double for the Drillers in the bottom of the third inning. With Houston leading 3-2 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a sinker from Armando Estrada, who finished 4th in the ABL in saves with 22 in 1967, and swatted a double to center. It was his 4th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Drillers ahead, 5-2.
