Knickerbockers Win at Home, 3-2
|
A good performance from shortstop Pedro Villamil helped the New York Knickerbockers defeat the Denver Burros, 3-2. Villamil was 2-3 with 2 singles for the Knickerbockers. New York reliever Paul Bradford picked up the win to move to 1-0. Bob Langham suffered the loss. Earning his 8th save of the year was Wayne Houston.
The Knickerbockers got a big at-bat from right fielder Bob Underwood. For the game, Underwood was 1 for 4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 24th double of the season gave New York a 3-1 lead.
Villamil attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
Their 47-53 record puts the Knickerbockers 4th in the National Baseball League Eastern Division.
