Philadelphia Beats Cincinnati, 3-2
|
Philadelphia third baseman Joe Voss picked up 3 ribbies while helping his team beat back the Cincinnati Packers, 3-2. Tom Reid, the winning pitcher, improved to 6-7. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 3. Bill Kaiser earned the save for Philadelphia, his 4th of the year.
A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 1st and no one out in the top of the sixth inning. That's when first baseman Ralph King, who led the NBL in hits with 191 in 1963, hit a double. The Quakers went on to win.
Cincinnati manager Martin Abresch said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
The Quakers have an impressive 62-37 record.
