The 1977 season is off to a good start for the New York Empires. The hometown Empires knocked off the Montreal Habitants, 7-3, at Queens Field. New York catcher Len Finnegan paced his team to the win.

Javier Abarca came through for New York when he hit a run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth. With the bases loaded, he hit a two-strike fastball to left-center field, staking his team to a 3-2 lead.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Finnegan.
