Blockbusters Squelch Quakers Offense in Shutout Win
|
The Los Angeles Blockbusters topped the Philadelphia Quakers, 6-0, with left fielder Oscar Gonzalez playing a big role. Gonzalez went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Blockbusters in the win. Wayne Guilmette got credit for the win, improving to 6-8. He allowed no runs on 7 hits in 6 innings. The Blockbusters, at 44-55, sit in 6th place in the National Baseball League Western Division.
In the top of the seventh, Jeff Murchison stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Quakers were trailing 5-0, but had the bases loaded. That's when Cardell Franklin made a terrific pitch and Murchison struck out. Gone was the dream of a Philadelphia comeback.
