Wranglers Need Extra Innings to Top Drillers, 2-1
The Dallas Wranglers did just enough to secure a victory over the Houston Drillers, 2-1, in 10 innings at Sam Houston Field. Nobody did more than pitcher Ed Payne. Payne, now 10-3, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 3, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Warren Washington locked down his 2nd save.

Dallas used the timely hitting of Joe Ballard to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Wranglers on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

In postgame remarks, Payne applauded his team's "toughness."

Dallas currently is in 6th place in the American Baseball League Western Division at 46-56.
