Dallas Sent Home with 3-1 Loss
|
The Montreal Habitants got a magnificent performance from pitcher Manny Esparza, who muffled the Dallas offense en route to a tight, 3-1 Habitants win at LaSalle Stadium. The winning pitcher was Esparza, now 8-5. He tossed 5.2 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 8. Hervé Lelièvre earned the save for Montreal, his 4th.
Oscar Corte helped out the Montreal cause in the bottom of the fifth inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the shortstop drove in one run.
"What can you say about Manny?" said Montreal manager Michel Alexandre Cauchon. "He was pretty incredible."
The first-place Habitants, at 57-45, lead the American Baseball League Eastern Division by 2½ games.
