Captains Get Clutch Win Versus Los Angeles
The San Diego Captains eked out a 2-1 win versus the Los Angeles Blockbusters at Blockbuster Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Dave Fields. He was terrific. San Diego reliever Dave Gilson picked up the win, raising his record to 2-1. Wayne Guilmette was tagged with the loss. The Captains bumped their record to 62-41 with this latest triumph.

Jim Quinlan, who finished 2nd in the ABL in doubles with 36 in 1972, had a direct impact on the outcome. Quinlan contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the 12th inning to put San Diego up, 2-1.

"We busted our tails," said Los Angeles manager John Trausch. "But we came up short."
