Espersen Gives St. Louis Goose Eggs
|
The St. Louis Explorers were almost helpless in their 3-0 loss to the San Diego Captains and hurler John Espersen. Espersen kept the Explorers confused all game, spinning a 7-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Espersen," St. Louis manager Ray Fleetwood said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 25-year-old right-hander had 1 walk and 5 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Espersen said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
On the year, Espersen has compiled a 8-11 mark with a 3.20 ERA.
