The rain did not keep Denver and Washington from finishing their game.

Starting pitcher Willie Purter pitched well enough to help the Denver Burros beat the Washington Eagles, 6-3. Purter yielded 2 runs over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. His record improves to 11-6.

The outcome was still in doubt with two out in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Purter was able to pitch out of a jam. With runners on 1st and 3rd and Washington trailing 3-1, Purter retired Ron Keiser, who flied out.

The first-place Burros, at 61-41, now lead their division by 8 games.
