The performance of Armando Landa proved critical in helping Dallas beat Houston, 5-3. The Wranglers first baseman went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Steve Coomes, the winning pitcher, improved to 9-6. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 8 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 2. Frank Dunn was credited with the save for Dallas, his 10th of the season.
Landa had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a 1-0 slider from Francisco Castro, he banged a 2-run home run to right, giving the Wranglers a 5-3 lead. It was the 13th home run of the year for Landa.
"It was a solid team effort," said Landa after the game.
The 6th-place Wranglers now have a record of 47-56.
