The San Francisco Seagulls earned a close win over the Los Angeles Pobladores, thanks in part to Ray Heath. The San Francisco right-hander, who led the NBL in strikeouts with 174 in 1971, played a key role in the 2-1 victory. Archie Sereni earned his 24th save in 26 chances. San Francisco, at 58-45, is 2 games up in the American Baseball League Western Division.

Jose Sosa came through with a big-time hit for San Francisco. The right fielder smacked a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Los Angeles manager Alex Wobbema. "The effort was great."
