Los Angeles Makes Denver 4-3 Losers
|
The Los Angeles Blockbusters did just enough to sneak past the Denver Burros, 4-3, at Gates Crescent Park. Los Angeles pitcher Jon Hampton, in particular, had a standout performance. Los Angeles reliever Bill Kaiser picked up the win, raising his record to 2-0. Mike Gresley was tagged with the loss. Denver, with the loss, is still a hardy 8-3.
Ken Frederick, who finished 3rd in the NBL in batting average with .332 in 1972, had a direct impact on the outcome. Frederick contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put Los Angeles up, 4-3.
"I was a little disappointed," said Denver manager Clark Anderson. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
