The St. Louis Explorers downed the Denver Burros, 4-1, at Corps of Discovery Stadium. Stellar pitching by Randy Birch had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who finished 2nd in the NBL in ERA with 2.49 in 1975, handcuffed his opponent all game. Birch got the win, improving to 8-7. He gave up 5 hits and walked 2 over 6 innings. He allowed 1 run. The 5th-place Burros have lost 6 consecutive games.

The Explorers had to work out of trouble in the top of the sixth. The score was 2-0, St. Louis, with no one out. Denver, with a runner on 1st, was mounting a threat. Guillermo Morales dug in at the plate, but on a 2-1 splitter, he grounded out.
