The Washington Eagles rode a solid performance from 24-year-old starting pitcher Mike Cooper to a win, beating the Brooklyn Bluebirds, 4-2, at Monument Field. Ricky Grill earned the save for Washington, his 2nd of the year. Washington has now won 4 games in a row.
The Eagles got a big at-bat from left fielder Alan Cassill. For the game, Cassill was 2-4 with 2 doubles, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 22nd double of the season gave Washington a 3-2 lead.
After the game, Washington manager Brandon Tucker applauded the team's effort. "They busted their humps out there," he said.
