The San Diego Captains rode a solid performance from 22-year-old starting pitcher Ray McKenzie to a win, beating the Chicago Traders, 5-2, at San Diego Sporting Complex. Dave Fields notched his 12th save in 16 chances. The win elevated the Captains to 56-51.

The fans who came to support the Captains were pleased with the outcome. It was what they had hoped for when they passed through the turnstiles at San Diego Sporting Complex.

Said losing manager Larry Link: "Give the Captains credit. They played a better game than we did."
