Philadelphia got a terrific game from center fielder Randy Colbourne. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Denver, 6-4. Colbourne went 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Dan Valenti came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.2 innings. His record now stands at 6-2. The win gives Denver a season record of 65-43.
Alejandro Rebolledo, who finished 2nd in the NBL in on-base percentage with .459 in 1970, chipped in a 2-run home run for Denver in the bottom of the third. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said Denver manager Clark Anderson.
