Phillips Hits 2 home runs in Bulls Win
|
The timely hitting of Danny Phillips helped the Kansas City Bulls down the Denver Burros, 8-4. Phillips hit 2 home runs for the Bulls. Andy Luce picked up the win, lifting his record to 1-0 on the season. He struck out 4 and walked 5 in 8 innings, while yielding no runs. Denver, at 3-9, is off to a poor start in 1970.
In the bottom of the second, Kansas City shortstop Chuck Estrada had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 2nd and one out, Estrada stroked a run-scoring single to left-center. It made the score 2-0, Kansas City. For the game, he was 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 runs.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Phillips told the Kansas City Gazette. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
