Spirited fans greeted the San Francisco Seagulls for their clash with the Houston Drillers.

The 7-2 Houston win over San Francisco was due in large part to Mickey Hoffman. The Drillers center fielder went 4-5 with 4 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Houston is now 57-51. San Francisco is 67-38.

The Seagulls had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Drillers going into the top of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the former first round draft pick Jim Johnson came to the plate. Johnson hit a solo home run on a 1-0 changeup from San Francisco hurler Paul Wiley. It was Johnson's 1st home run of the year.

"I thought we played a nice game," Johnson told the Houston Today. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
