The New York Empires racked up a win at Queens Field, bumping off the Baltimore Lords, 5-4, in 11 innings. Larry Stanford, who started for New York, pitched effectively for his team. New York reliever Jack Pratt picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Gilberto Rivera was saddled with the loss. With this game in the books, New York is 62-44, Baltimore 53-55.

The decisive blow was delivered by Dave Matuzak in the bottom of the 11th when he hit a solo home run off 26-year old left-handed pitcher Gilberto Rivera to win the game for New York. The home crowd went nuts.

"This kind of game is tough on the heart," said winning manager Dan Whiting.
