Bulls Absorb 5-2 Home Loss
|
The San Diego Captains picked up a win at Independence Field, knocking off the Kansas City Bulls, 5-2. Starting pitcher Bret Weingartz was a big reason why. Weingartz yielded 2 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2. His record improves to 2-0. Jack DeWitt earned the save for San Diego, his 2nd of the year.
San Diego catcher Earl Peters contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fourth. With two down, he hit a cutter to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 3rd hit of the season and put the Captains ahead, 3-1.
"My job is to throw quality pitches, go as deep as I can, and give us an opportunity," said Weingartz.
Kansas City drops to 7-4.
