Eagles Pull Out Late-Game Win, 1-0
|
Mike Cooper pitched a gem to lead Washington to victory over the New York Knickerbockers, 1-0. Cooper, the winner, moves to 4-9. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 3 walks. The 6th-place Eagles now sit at 46-64.
Washington used the timely hitting of Larry Wools to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Eagles on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Wools called the win "a team effort."
