Down to Defeat Goes Cleveland, 5-2
|
Cincinnati and Cleveland duked it out and the Packers came out victorious.
The Cincinnati Packers cut down the Cleveland Bobcats by the score of 5-2, with the largest share of the credit going to second baseman Billy Muhammad. Muhammad went 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Packers. Dave Pelton earned the win. Joe Clabaugh, who finished 5th in the NBL in wins with 18 in 1970, took the loss for Cleveland. Rich Pedersen closed it out for his 2nd save.
Glendale, California-born Glen Bennett came through in the clutch. In the top of the seventh, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Packers trailing 2-1, he hit a 2-run single to center to put Cincinnati on top.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Cincinnati skipper Martin Abresch.
Cleveland falls to 3-8.
