New York got a strong outing from Tim Fried as the Knickerbockers defeated the Washington Eagles, 3-2, at Monument Field. Fried picked up the win for New York, going 5 innings. He gave up 1 run on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 9-7. Bob James, the 24th overall pick in the 1973 draft, earned the save for New York.
New York took a 3-1 lead on Steve Wright's 8th home run of the season. The solo home run, which Wright hit in the top of the seventh, left Washington pitcher Larry Andrade visibly frustrated.
"I like to lead by example," said Fried. "I'm glad I could contribute to a good win."
The Knickerbockers saw their win-loss record go to 53-56. At the same time, the Eagles fell to 47-63.
