In a close game at Sam Houston Field, the Houston Drillers edged the Los Angeles Pobladores, 5-4. Houston right fielder Jackie Frost stood apart with his performance. He was 2 for 5 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Larry Clarke, the 19th overall pick in the 1976 draft, earned the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. He upped his record to 4-2. The 4th-place Drillers have won 5 consecutive games.

The game was decided with two out in the bottom of the ninth. With Houston trailing 4-2, Frost jumped on a fastball from 24-year old left-handed pitcher Rick Furlong and hit a 3-run home run to right. With one swing, the Drillers had a walk-off win.

"It's great when the crowd goes berserk," Frost said.
