Bluebirds Get Clutch Win, 5-4
|
The Brooklyn Bluebirds had to overcome a big game from Cincinnati third baseman Mike Clarke to leave Flatbush Park with a victory. And they did, winning, 5-4. Clarke went 3-3 with 3 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. Brooklyn reliever Bob Hill picked up the win, upping his record to 8-2. Art Ledington took the loss. The setback makes Cincinnati 48-63.
Greg Landrum, who is tied for 10th in the NBL with a .488 slugging percentage, chipped in a solo home run for Brooklyn in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the left fielder had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 1 run batted in.
Brooklyn manager John Meeker praised his team's "energy."
