The Chicago Hawks did just enough to sneak past the Dallas Wranglers, 5-4, at Hyde Park Stadium. Chicago pitcher Johnny Russell, in particular, had a standout performance. Russell, now 4-4, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 1, walking 5, and allowing 3 runs. Getting the save was Gary Ingram, his 6th.

The Hawks got a big at-bat from first baseman Don Bozza. For the game, Bozza was 1 for 4 with a double. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 27th double of the season gave Chicago a 1-0 lead.

Russell told the media after that game that the mood in the clubhouse is "extremely positive" after a win like that.

The victory puts Chicago at 41-67.
