Los Angeles Blockbusters starter Wayne Guilmette pitched a strong game against the Chicago Traders at Union Field, leading the Blockbusters to victory, 4-2. The winner was Guilmette. He threw 8.0 innings of 7-hit ball. The loser was Bobby Peters. Tom Benson earned the save, his 17th in 20 tries.

Ken Frederick, who finished 3rd in the NBL in batting average with .332 last year, helped out the Los Angeles cause in the top of the sixth inning with a run-scoring double. For the game, the second baseman went 2 for 4 with a double.

"I'm happy we won," said Guilmette. "That's first and foremost. My goal is for the team to win the day I pitch, however it's done."

Today's win puts Los Angeles at 49-60, while Chicago falls to 52-57.
