San Francisco starter Jimmy Trent ran into little resistance from Houston hitters, as his team cruised to victory, 10-2. Trent yielded 2 runs over 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. His record improves to 1-1. The American Baseball League Western Division-leading Seagulls are 68-40.

Chuck Roberts had a big 2-run double for the Seagulls in the bottom of the second inning. With San Francisco leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a changeup from Rick McStay, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1969 draft, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 18th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Seagulls ahead, 3-0.

"Jimmy was able to execute his pitches," said San Francisco manager Al Borie. "Simple as that."
