Philadelphia wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Mel Hartman, falling to the Cincinnati Packers, 7-6. Hartman threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. Terry Stallings, credited with the save, is now 6 for 8 in save opportunities. Cincinnati, with the win, is 34-77.

Glenn Palmer came through with a big-time hit for Cincinnati. The left fielder smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 5-4. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
